The PingFm Social Media PlugIn For Wordpress

April 6, 2009 by admin

Well my friends, if you are like many people I know you are having a bit of a hard time keeping up the the Social Media landscape. When something as helpful as the PingFM plug-in for Wordpress comes along it’s something we can all rejoice in.

If you aren’t familiar with PingFM, it is a service on the web that will post to 30 of the Social Media and micro blog sites such as Twitter, Facebook, Friendfeed, Mashable, MySpace, LinkedIn, and many more. It will also do this all at once from within the PingFM panel. How is that for extending your reach in a much easier way?

The Wordpress PingFM plug-in is basically an extension of this service. Each time you post something new on your Wordpress blog the plug-in will notify the PingFM service, and subsequently, let your Social Networks know of the updates to your blog!

The plug-in does come with a couple of precautions that you might want to keep in mind. To check out those out you can look here. These mostly have to do with cross posting settings you should look into.

While this plug-in isn’t necessarily viral in nature, I suppose it could help. If you happen to make a blog post that gets picked up on Twitter, Facebook, and the other sites which commands a bunch of RT’s from your audience….who knows??

This is where you can download the PingFM Wordpress plug-in.

Have fun with it!

    Hi Davin,

I apologize for putting this here, but I can find no other way to contact you.

Our interests are very similar. I was hoping to offer you a word of mouth tool, and invite you in to a private partnership that would turn this tool in to a viral link builder for you. I’m not selling anything, no BS games and so on.

If you’d like to explore this together, I’d welcome an email from you.

    Good luck with your site!

    Phil

As always Davin, you bring up good information. Thank you.

I’ve not used Ping.fm, but after I read a bit more about it, I’ll start using it. As long as one doesn’t use these tools for spammy methods, they can sure be a timesaver.

I like tools that make my life easier. Since I use Firefox/Flock for my default browser, there are several plugins that work well for me. One is the Shareaholic addin. It’s nice having one place that allow me to post in several social networking sites easily. There are a dozen more but most have to do with SEO/SEM and the like. If you post about that, I’ll contribute again.

    Thanks again.

Does PingFm Wordpress work on any blog. I use moguling.com. I need something automated?

  16. admin on May 10th, 2009 5:25 pm

    Hi Sheri,

Yes, actually the plug-in is made specifically for Wordpress blogs. But, that doesn’t mean you can’t use the web based service directly that the plug-in evolved from. Even the web service let’s you kill many birds with one stone “so to speak”. The only real difference is that you do it from inside their service, instead of automatically through your blog. Hope that helps!

You are right.. Social Media is extensive.. and definitely hard to keep up with everything. There are also quite a few WordPress plugins to use. Pingfm saves time and that’s a good thing. Thanks for posting the link for the precautions to evaluate.

Sounds like a nice tool! Has anyone seen an increase in traffic from using pingfm?

  20. Bill Vlasak on August 10th, 2009 5:44 pm

Ping .fm will eventually bring traffic if your content invokes interest much like good comments on other blogs like this one and others that have a high ranking for followers also ,will give your blog inbound links as well as backlinks (there is a slight difference )
As a sidenote,”Only Wire” has a free and a paid service identical to Ping.fm and is offered as a blog plug-in ,web service, and as a web site installation.

This is an highly essential plugin and I feel sad that this has not got enough importance among bloggers and webmasters. They are totally reliable and highly helpful in spreading the article across the social networks.

Let’s be honest, Ping .fm will eventually bring traffic if your content invokes interest much like good commenting on other blogs like this one and others that have a high ranking for followers also, will give your blog inbound links as well as backlinks - sweet deal.

    Hi Davin,

I’m currently using “blogger” I guess moving to WordPress would be better but you also indicated that Ping.fm can be used online as well? Is WordPress the better blogging platform here?

Recently I have used Only Wire and have had great success using their free service.
However, I have also read recently that Seesmic has bought Ping.fm and that this service will be included in the Seesmic dashboard? This sounds like Seesmic will have the advantage here along with their other services!

Hey Lyle, well yes..Wordpress is definitely the preferred platform over blogger. It should be noted though, that is using it with your own hosting and domains. Unfortunately using Wordpress.com has way to many restrictions in place for any serious marketer. You have so many options and excellent advantages by using the Wordpress platform on your own host compared to using blogger, it’s really quite a no-brainer that way.

Then again, blogger.com blogs do have some great value to. Google loves them obviously because it is their own platform. I’d suggest using Blogger.com blogs as feeder blogs for your main blog which would be a Wordpress blog on your own domain and using your own hosting company.

    Hope that helps…

    Cheers
    Davin
