Defense For More Effective Online Marketing In The Economic Crises

In light of everything that has been going on with not only the economy, but, also with the recent troubles I had with my hosting company and having a ton of my business wiped out, it caused me to take a very hard look at things and take into account different measures for more defense to have for effective online marketing.

It forced me to look at where I could cut monthly costs of running an online business, and also where an Internet Business needs to be improved as to survive such an occurence, or in creating stability during tough economic crunches.

There is the old saying, “Sometimes things happen for a reason.” I’ve been keeping this in my mind and making it a positive in my life. This recent occurence really forced me to get into an area, that I’ve been thinking about for quite some time, but, had always sort of left on the back burner although I’ve known it was one of the most effective ways to market online period. But, with the recent developments I chose this time as “the need to get it done” more than ever before. I’m certainly not the only person who experienced a huge amount of loss recently, one of my closest friends also experienced a complete loss of possesions which took years to build up. Perhaps a different type of loss, but, these possession were ultimately gained through successful online marketing. This is one more thing that opened my eyes up to “what could happen.”

I realized just how volatile an online business can be, and also how with many types of marketing we are really at the mercy of either third party companies or others at times. Of course I do believe in many of the proven strategies that I’ve learned in the past for effective online marketing such as list building, creating joint ventures, blogging and the like, but, there is something more that needed to be done.

Imagine for a minute that you are a marketer who has a list of 50,000 subscribers who are fairly responsive, and waking up to find that the company who held your mailing list went out of business without so much as a warning?

It’s taken you a few years to build up this mailing list and it is your most effective online marketing model which brings in the money every month that your family has come to rely on. Let’s say, you have been exporting the names on your list and backing them up properly, but, because SPAM laws are at the place that they are these days, that you had to get everybody on your list to opt-in again since you had to switch AR companies? So you sent out your request to your subscribers, only to find that only 1/3 of them actually went through with the process. Essentially, your business would be cut down to 1/3 of what it was…overnight!

This is only an example, but, I’m sure it gets the point across as to vulnerable we can be. What if one of the top marketers who always relied on his J/V partners for getting his product out to the market place was suddenly shunned for some reason, and left with nobody to help promote for him? I’d imagine…he’d be pretty darn messed up and scared about it, just the same as anybody else would.

The point is, that as marketers we need to be thinking about these things. Yes, we could have some fail safes in place, but, when it comes right down to it..we need to think smarter and work smarter.

I’ve come up with a little list which may give some people a few ideas on how to save your business a bit of money in times of crisis, and afterwards I’ll share with you the how learning a new skill to include with your marketing may very well save you from hard times…and also increase your business profits to a huge degree.

1. Many of the tools which we need as marketers are being promoted to us all the time. Before, you go ahead and buy any type of business software, find out if it’s available in an open source version. Sure, the big companies insist that we need theirs, but, in reality a lot of this software can be found freely on the internet. Perhaps, you won’t find marketing software specifically, but, there are many softwares we use as marketer such as Office Suites or something similar to Photoshop. They are out there, some pretty good one’s to.

2. Cut out any unnecessary memberships that you might belong to. While I realize having a membership with certain services is extremely helpful to an online business, at times, you may have to make a choice of what you can live without for a bit, until you build your business back up to the point where you can then implement it again.

3. Consider sharing your hosting needs with another marketer. Thankfully, a friend helped and pointed this out to me recently and I’m very thankful. It was one of those things that hadn’t occured to me at the time. It’s very wise when you think about it, very few marketers ever use up all of their disk space or bandwidth allowances with their accounts.

4. Hey, word of mouth marketing works! Ask some of your marketing acquantances to see if they don’t mind getting the word out about your new blog, report, or anything else that may help your business through a tough time. While some marketers won’t do a darn thing to help unless it means they are making a buck. There are still some very nice marketers out there who won’t mind offering a hand. You could also offer some type of trade in return for their help.

5. Well, I’ve seen this done before. I seen Matthew Glanfield ramp up his daily promotions almost to the point where it almost drove everybody nuts I’m sure! It was at a time when he had to pay a lot of taxes fast. It’s strange I remember that..but, it was early on when Matthew really hit big.

Yes, you may lose subscribers, but, it’s usually only people who won’t purchase items from you anyway. Freebie seekers really don’t do anything to help your business. Unfortunately, even if you’ve done your best to build a solid relationship with subscribers, tried your best to help them with your wisdom or recommendations, some people will still try and get every ounce of “anything” out of you for free.

Don’t let it stress you out, prune your list of them, and try and replace them with qualified and buying prospects. Remember, in the end..this is a business. I know it helped bring Matthew’s business back to life!

6. Keep it in the family. If you have any kids who might have some of the skills in which you might otherwise outsource at times..hire them. It’s amazing how knowledgeable some kids are with things like Photoshop etc.

I hope that gives ou a few ideas which may help if your business hits a crunch or your are feeling a bit of the economic crises.

How To Protect Yourself With More Effective Online Marketing

If you could learn the skill of knowing how to spot, target and optimize marketing campaigns, to effectively bring in a lot of profit in a matter of weeks, would you say that would be a pretty good skill to have?

As stated above, if something vastly wrong happened with your business seemingly overnight this is one skill that can save your business and also provide you with the tools to never have to rely on any type of J/V partners if they were for some reason disappear. Not only that, but if you ever suddenly found yourself without your blog or website that you relied on for your income because you spent a lot of time developing your traffic, you could quickly replace those funds as well.

What am I talking about? I’m talking about Pay Per Click marketing. You see, I realized that this is a skill I need to learn now, and not later…anymore.

Think about this. Even if your blogs or websites went down, you could quickly build another site geared for PPC, in a solid market and you don’t even have to worry about your search rankings anymore. Since you are paying for traffic, your traffic will be back straight away. Also, if you knew how to do this skill effectively, you really would only need to rely on yourself for your income. If your hosting company went kaput, you can easily open another one and get some sites up again quickly. While I won’t say, that this is the only skill a person should have, it is certainly one of the most powerful skills a online marketer could have.

Recently I decided to join PPC Classroom. I realized that to get the level of training that this was being offered to me, at the small investment that it really is, there would most likely not be another opportunity like this for a long time. At least, not until next year again. Actually, upon speaking with a good friend of mine from Wisconsin, we’d both decided to finally take the plunge together.

While I have been studying PPC through some great guides like Perry Marshall’s Definitive Guide To Adwords, I’m realizing had I dove in with only that knowledge, I probably would have been skunked pretty darn fast!

The course starts off very basic, but by the time you are getting into Modules 2, 3, and 4, it’s really leaving me with a feeling of great relief that I decided to go ahead with this thing. The stuff I’m learning is…well, all I can say is “WOW….I would have never known…”

So that said, I’m very relieved. I will be straight, there are some things in a course like this that are pretty darn advanced and a little hard to grasp, but, at the same time I’m very excited to be learning these new skills. Not only can they save you from catastrophy if the time should arise, they also will help you to become completely self reliant with your marketing. As they say, you can never put your eggs in one basket, and this is one basket that will give you the the ongoing skills to never find yourself in a pinch again.

Did I mention I was relieved to finally be learning this stuff?

You know, I am now very glad that I’m following your blog!

At first, I was seeing your posts and thinking “wow…this stuff is for the IM masters…when will it make sense to me…”

Now I am seeing that I can learn some very valuable lessons by keeping up with your blog. I’ve always considered that IM could be something really stable in the midst of everything else…never had I considered that something could come along and wipe out everything you’d built!

But, knowledge is power. I’m really sorry to know that you are having to build from scratch again…but I’m very glad to know that you are able to!

Keep your head high, Davin. Sounds like you’re well on your way!
